Sigh …. so it’s been a while since i last posted so i’m going to keep it short. As most of you may have heard, Shinee’s lead singer, Jonghyun commited suicide and passed away on the 18th December 2017. The news came as a shock to most people and brought light to the harsh reality of the kpop industry.
When i first came into kpop, Shinee was one of the first groups i discovered and fell in love with. Their amazing choreo, vocals and fun personalities made them very popular.
Jonghyun in particular had a very unique and beautiful voice. His songs struck a certain note in my heart and even more so now that he’s passed on.
If you are struggling with or know someone who js struggling with depression then please get help or help them with their lives.
Kpop will never be the same. RIP Jonghyun ❤
Ok, so if you are a fan of kpop then you will probably have heard of EXP Edition. If you haven’t then no.1 where have you been? and no.2 DW i got you.
To start, a little backround information on the new band. EXP are a new kpop band made up of all american members – yes all american. The members are as follows: Koki Tomlinson (half Japanese and German), Frankie DaPonte, (Portuguese), Hunter Kohl who is from New York and Šime Košta, from Croatia. Whilst none of the members can currently speak Korean, they have moved to S Korea in order to learn the language – kudos to them and they dropped their MV ‘Feel like this’ about 2 weeks ago (I’ll leave the link below).
Whilst most people are quick to judge and criticise them, i actually like them. I don’t understand why people dont like the fact they want to do kpop. There are plenty of non-korean kpop stars out there and no-one seems to be hating on them. For example GOT7 has 3 members who are not korean, BamBam from Thailand, Jackson from Hong Kong and Mark from the States, ClC member Sorn is from Thailand, NCT consists of numerous foreign members like Ten and Yuta (Thai and Japanese).
So can the reason for the hate just be boiled down to racism? Just because the members of EXP aren’t asian, they can’t be a kpop star? Ridiculous. I don’t care what people say, they are actually really good singers and are trying their best to learn the language as proven by their appearance on Mnet’s I can see your voice 4.
They appeared on the Super Junior episode and you can find clips of their performance on youtube (if you’re feeling lazy i’ll leave the links below). They impressed the audience and the judges with their performance of Super Junior’s hit song ‘U’.
So the message i want to bring across here …. don’t hate on people who are following their dreams and working hard, it’s unbecoming of a decent human being and slightly pathetic.
